The International Psychology Conference Dubai, dedicated to the role psychologists and related professionals have in enabling positive change, has four dedicated streams. Propel International is sponsoring the event and Martin Adams, our co-founder and managing director will present his whitepaper on Hybrid Assessment: The value of blended assessment in talent identification and development at the event.
This topic is of great interest to Martin, and the presentation will touch upon the use of multiple tools and assessment methodologies for selection, development, and high potential programs, and how this has often resulted in an inefficient and disjointed approach. This can impact the participant or candidate experience and create confusion through multiple sources of often conflicting data. Using a case study approach, this presentation will cover new techniques in hybrid assessments and technology.
Martin Adams is an entrepreneurial and innovative Chartered Occupational Psychologist, with extensive commercial experience with a range of public and private sector organisations throughout the UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific.
Martin’s experience lies in the application of psychology to the world of work to support organisations in the selection, development and engagement of their talent, supported by his expertise in objective assessment and coaching.
The Conference will take place on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st October in Herriott Watt University Campus, Dubai. Click here to register and discover more details.

Propel Internship ProgrammeFor the second year in a row, Propel International has welcomed a psychology student from the Chinese University of Hong Kong to participate in our internship programme. This year it is Cedric Kwong, a second-year undergraduate, studying psychology.
What does Cedric have to say about his time at Propel?
Typical day in the office? I joined Propel in early June and since then I have experienced many different aspects of what a normal day for business psychologists is like. I have attended assessment, development, and training centres, put my excel skills to good use on quantitative feedback results and assessment centre design, and I have seen how to administer psychometric assessments on the Propel Talent portal, amongst other things. Why did you chose business psychology? We started studying business psychology this year, and in this short space of time I was instantly fascinated by the concept, in particular; how different assessments can help companies to find the most suitable person for promotion or for hiring. The fact that I have been given the chance to see how this works in real life at Propel, and that I have helped analyse and review these tests has made me more determined that this is something I would like to pursue when I finish studying. I am delighted to get some experience in this area, it will help me prepare for the future and my career. |
Why did you chose Propel and Dubai?
I have always wanted to explore different parts of the world and experience new cultures. I studied in the UK for 5 years and I loved meeting different people around the world. When I told my friends and relatives that I will be working in Dubai, they were shocked and stunned by my decision. It is uncommon in Hong Kong for students to go overseas to earn work experience. I have really enjoyed my time in Dubai – the team here have been really nice and we have good fun together.
Propel International Internship Commitment
Propel International is proud to partner with the Chinese University and provide this hands-on opportunity to work in the field of Business Psychology alongside practitioners and professionals. Cedric has been given an insight into how his academic programme of study applies to the real-world. We hope that this significant experience will help develop him and other students in the future as they go on to pursue job roles in the industry.

What did you do before?
My background isn’t your typical Occupational Psychology background, I actually studied Criminology as an undergraduate degree, following this up with a degree in Counter-terrorism from Cambridge University that led me into the Metropolitan Police. I decided to change my career in early 2012 where I began working at a global talent management consultancy in London, this led me to accepting a role at Propel.
What keeps you busy at the moment?
I work across a number of different projects with various clients, however, at the moment my work is primarily focused around the Propel Talent Portal and working with clients in EMEA to build bespoke portals to fit their needs. We have also just launched our second Motivational Leadership Survey for a global client which has been sent to 15,000 employees worldwide, in 22 languages.
Enjoying it?
I am really enjoying being back in the UK and focusing on our clients in EMEA and the USA. The projects differ to those I have been part of in the UAE over the past few years. What I love most is that every day is different, my favourite part is working together with clients to deliver work that is specific to their needs. I absolutely love our clients and enjoy building long-term partnerships.
Anything quirky you want to share?
I have a tendency to enter crazy sporting competitions. I have just completed my second half ironman in England, which saw me swim 2km, cycle 90km and run 13km in 6 ½ hours.
