Propel and Averda shortlisted for HR Award

Propel International conducted for Averda, an assessment project to help in the selection of operational positions in the Congo. This project has been recognised by the HR Excellence Awards as an outstanding achievement and a significant innovation in Selection and Employer Branding.

Averda was officially inaugurated in February by the Municipality of Brazzaville in The Republic of Congo to provide city cleaning services to the entire capital. To mobilise a local Congolese workforce quickly and efficiently, the international waste management solutions provider partnered with Propel to implement assessment centres aimed at staffing a wide range of operational and administrative roles.

Historically, such advanced recruitment techniques were only used by averda to fill management positions in more developed markets. However, the company was keen to pilot best-practice assessment standards in an emerging market for non-managerial, and junior-level roles.

The exciting prospect enabled averda and Propel to act as true pioneers and conduct Brazzaville’s first ever assessment centres.

How will Virtual Reality shape the future of Assessment Centers?

Martin Adams, Managing Director of Propel International, was invited to talk about the Future of Assessment and Development Centers at the 40th International Congress on Assessment Center Methods in Indonesia this month. Martin focused on the impact of Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality.

Virtual reality offers an engaging, realistic and immersive experience - something we aspire to do in Assessment & Development Centers (AC/DCs) through the creation of realistic business simulations. The quality of the content, however, is just as important as the method of delivery. ‘Gamification’ has become something of a fad in the psychometrics space, with many publishers jumping on the band wagon with varying levels of scientific rigor and questionable validity of the outcomes.

It is only a matter of time before gamification of AC/DCs and business simulations begin to gain greater traction, and an increasing responsibility of practitioners to ensure the evolution occurs in practical, meaningful and best-practice fashion, rather than a technological showcase.

I'M A PROUD PROPELLER

Meet Charlotte Gray

Tell us about you
My name is Charlotte Gray, I am a Senior Consultant with Propel International and a business psychologist by background. I’ve been in Dubai for over two years now, having relocated from the UK with my husband, to join Propel.
Picture
What did you do before?
I was previously in the UK working as Business Psychologist within an assessment design consultancy. My main focus was on designing psychometric tools and exercises for assessment centres, with a particular emphasis on Situational Judgement Test design

What keeps you busy at the moment?
I am currently in the process of designing and rolling out Situational Judgement Tests and Realistic Job Previews for organisations such as Coca-Cola. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to work alongside these organisations and design bespoke tools tailored to their culture and specific roles. I am also currently partnering with averda to identify future leaders by assessing top talent from a pool of MBA graduates at a select number of top business schools.

Enjoying it?
Absolutely! It is such a pleasure to provide sustained partnerships with organisations, helping them to make better selection and development decisions, and to see the individuals themselves flourish and progress. It is an added bonus that I get to do this alongside a great team of fellow Propellers!

Anything quirky you want to share?

As my colleagues know, I love a stage and microphone. In the UK I used to take part in amateur dramatics with a particular love for musicals and singing. I hope to continue this passion in Dubai in the near future!
