November has proved to be a simultaneously rewarding and reflective month for Propel International. We were delighted to be recognised as the Future Workplace L&D Training Provider of the Year for a second year running, and to have the opportunity to engage with peers and clients across industries at the HR Summit & Expo in Dubai as well as the HR60 Summit in London. In this edition, we celebrate and appreciate the efforts of our team and clients to co-create award winning talent solutions.
With just a few short weeks remaining of 2019, I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve spoken to over the past few days about how busy they are and how much still needs to be done before year end. |
Whether you’re planning to take an end of year break or not, now is the time to start thinking about how to create some space in the typical end of year pace, focusing on well-being, sustainable effort and the importance of rest and recovery.
In amongst finalizing projects, wrapping up current initiatives and planning for 2020, I encourage you to appreciate what has been accomplished, ensure you protect time for recovery and relaxation, and be purposeful and discerning in how you spend your time to re-balance and recharge. |
PROPEL AROUND THE WORLD
UK
In the UK we are seeing a flurry of activity before the end of the year, with many organisations looking to simplify their assessment process by utilising Propel’s Talent Portal. Added to this, we’re launching our new Psychological Fitness Programme in direct response to the demand for a programme that addresses the root cause of stress and resilience and enables employees to work at their peak performance. Lastly, it is great to see that our executive assessment process is being utilised again this time by a client in Amsterdam who requires a robust assessment process to enable some critical talent decisions to support their transformation. NEW ZEALAND
We are regularly hearing about the need to move to agile work practices from our clients. However, this is coupled with an awareness that many of the traditional processes that support the way we currently work can restrict this change, such as fixed job descriptions and role-focused contracts. Thinking about the behavioural elements involved in embracing agile working, this concept of the Adaptability Quotient (AQ) is becoming a buzzword that sits alongside other established quotients like IQ and EQ. People and Capability teams are becoming more interested in not only measuring fit for the role, but also understanding a candidate’s potential to adapt to changing roles, technology and ways of working. This view also allows assessment and understanding of how current employees may be able to support the changing nature of roles and work. By focusing on and understanding individual AQ, this can help develop overall organisational AQ at a broad level to help support the human elements when moving to agile working. AUSTRALIA
November has been a busy month for Propel in Australia with both the delivery of a world class Women Sponsorship project for one of our insurance clients, and the continuous effort to promote Propel’s solution of Talent Assessment down under. AI assessments have been in many of our conversations this month with the recent US federal complaint against an AI hiring firm being widely shared amongst the Australian HR community. As global assessment experts, we’re also seeing many clients come to us to confirm that their current assessments process follows best practice at all times. |
SPAIN
Propel Spain is currently working on designing and implementing a solution with the objective to potentially support one of its clients in developing their project management teams globally. The client is looking for an integrated solution to support these highly technical and skilled professionals with their daily responsibilities and reinforce their capabilities. These professionals manage a high degree of change, complexity and uncertainty. The three-fold project we are offering is aimed at developing soft skills to help participants gain self-awareness of their social and emotional skills; build leadership capability to enhance their quality of leadership in line with the company competency model, values and strategy; and finally manage stress in order to provide participants with the right tools to cope with conflict. MIDDLE EAST
One of Propel's three values is partnership. We fully brought this value to life in November as we hosted a breakfast event with our global recruitment partner Robert Walters. During that event, psychometric pioneer Dr. Alan Bourne from our distribution partner SOVA was our guest speaker sharing his insights on ‘Assessment, AI and The Age of Algorithm’. In addition, the third cohort of delegates went through Tara Cherniawski's Brain Based Coaching (BBC) programme that we offer in partnership with the NeuroLeadership Institute. Over 100 client partners have now completed the first stage of this international coaching accreditation programme with many more to come in 2020 due to its huge popularity. In 2020, we are aiming to focus also more strongly on KSA and partnerships there. For example, we are currently in talks with a partner in KSA to host our very first Business Breakfast in the Kingdom late January or early February around the topic of 'Leadership in 2020 and Beyond'. |

Propel Australia is in the middle of delivering a Women in Leadership program for one of our key multi-national clients. By assessing the participants in a variety of ways – online psychometrics, 360-degree feedback and competency-based interviews – we will have a comprehensive base to appraise and create highly tailored development plans. Each participant has been paired with a mentor throughout this key phase to complement the process. Since launching Propel in Australia at the start of August, a primary focus has been on letting the local market know that we have arrived! From the many meetings held with our key stakeholders – existing Propel International clients, prospective clients, partners, and associates – Propel brings a new and exciting offering. |
