How to Best Hire Remotely & Win the New War for Talent?
Picture
Even before 2020 the world was increasingly being filled with digital nomads and remote workers while companies were embracing new technologies and applications to allow for virtual practices. With the onset of the pandemic though the acceleration happened at warp speed and suddenly remote working has become the new norm.

Moreover, the entire talent landscape is going through a radical transformation, remote hiring is also on the rise and the war for talent has been reversed and it is a talent buyers' market now. A Startup Genome study found that since the start of the pandemic, almost three-quarters of startups have exited full-time workers. As a result of the large number of layoffs, the job market is flooded with talent. While some organisations are shutting down, rightsizing or putting hiring freezes in places, some specific industries and regions are on a hiring spree and need to learn how to interview and onboard new hires remotely and virtually.

The job market experienced a 105% increase in job applications in March 2020 in comparison to the year before with job offers increasing only slightly, according to MeetFrank. This in turn creates a gross oversupply of talent in comparison to the demand and thus a different type of war for talent.

Some of the challenges these businesses currently facing include, how to consistently bring the corporate brand and its values to life when remote hiring, how to build social capital with new employees who are fully remote and how in general to conduct a best practice remote hiring process.
